Castleton East Junction signal box was opened on 26th May 1963, built to the British Railways London Midland Region Type 15 design and fitted with a 65 lever London Midland Region Standard frame.
The first signal box on the site was named Blue Pits East and was possibly a Saxby & Farmer product. This first signal box had been renamed Castleton East Junction by the time it was replaced in 1880. The second signal box, also possibly a Saxby & Farmer product was replaced by a third signal box in 1892. This third signal box was a Lancashire & Yorkshire Railway Standard design fitted with a 42 lever Lancashire & Yorkshire Tappet frame and was replaced by the current signal box, as were Castleton Station and Castleton South Junction signal boxes. |
